The Second Wave of Covid – 19 has created a wave of panic among the people. The main reason for the risk is associated with the breathing difficulty faced by covid – 19 patients. At a sudden many develop breathing difficulty which is too difficult to handle by the local hospital due to the limitation of medical oxygen supply systems. Low oxygen levels is the risk of breathing difficulty as due to lack of oxygen the major organs such as kidney, brain , heart get affected. In this scenario prevention of such emergencies associated with breathing difficulty becomes very important with many aspects for saving lives.

Understanding what causes breathing difficulty in Covid -19 is first step : The viral attack to lungs makes the membranes – skin of lung tissue to tear and lung gets filled with liquid – a situation called as inflammation. In such condition lung can not transfer oxygen to blood through breathing. Only high power oxygen supply on urgent basis will solve the issue then.

But this inflammation can be prevented to certain extentwith administration of ayurvedic herbs is what many studies has shown. There were many animal studies as well as clinical studies conducted on famous medicinal herbs such as long pepper , licorice , dry ginger for anti inflammatory effect. We would like to provide some basic information about such herbs here.

Herbs are rich with many medicinal compounds , known as phenolic compounds – also known as phytochemicals. In Ayurveda certain herbs are known for their lung protection properties and are advised during breathing difficulties and fever. In Ayurveda Kasa and Swasa are two terminologies used to describe respiratory diseases. Jwara is the term used for Fever.

1. Long pepper is one such compound present in Tatkshana Ayurveda Immune Up , which is a instant drink powder. Piper longum is the scientific term for long pepper Pippali is an ultimate remedy for all sorts of Kapha aggravating disorders like asthma, bronchitis, COPD, cough and cold symptoms. It provides relief from cough and congestion and also helps in removing phlegm deposits from the respiratory tract.

2. Licorice : Jyeshtamadhu is a ancient herb used for rejuvenation puposes in Ayurveda. Several recent studies have stated that glycyrrhizin and licorice extract are present in most traditional Chinese medicine formulas used against SARS-CoV-2 in China. Significant data are showing that glycyrrhizin and licorice extract have multiple beneficial activities in combating most features of SARS-CoV-2.Fifty studies demonstrate antiviral activity of glycyrrhizin and licorice extract. The most frequent mechanism of the antiviral activity is due to disrupting viral uptake into the host cells and disrupting the interaction between receptor- binding domain (RBD) of SARS-COV2 and ACE2 in recent articles. Fifty studies indicate that glycyrrhizin and licorice extract have significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. Twenty five studies provide evidence for the protective effect of glycyrrhizin and licorice extract against inflammation-induced acute lung injury and cardiovascular disorders.

3. Those other herbs of Takshana Ayurveda Immune Up such as Turmeric – Ginger – Pepper – Kalmegh – Amrutha all act as modulators for the above herbs. They protect many other tissues and functions of immunity system of body. It is very important that every member of our families are protected against pandemic by keeping the lung tissues intact which are vulnerable against viral infection.
